Daisetsu(also known as Taisetsu)
Furano-Biei
The wild and beautiful Daisetsu and Furano-Biei area runs from Sounkyo Onsen in the north,
southwest through Biei and its famous rolling hills, and down to Furano.
This entire area is renowned throughout Japan for its spectacular views, rugged mountains,
and pleasant summer weather.
Hiking
The unique hiking scenery is different from the rest of Japan because of a distinct geological history which created long, hikable ridges at a moderate altitude.
Trails range in length from 1 hour, to half-day, to full-day hikes.
The volcanic sections are relatively steep and covered with rocky debris from the eruptions.
The hiking here can be as rugged as you wish.
While some visitors opt for multi-day trekking adventures, we are not offering those trips due to the difficult logistics involved.
Cycling
The Daisetsu and Furano-Biei area is a cyclists’ paradise! Our cycling season runs from late April through late October.
Summers here are significantly cooler and less humid than Honshu, the main island of Japan.
Choose from a wide variety of routes, from flat to rolling hills, to challenging hill climbs.
On many rides, you won’t even see a traffic light, and the smooth pavement is a wonderful bonus on multi-day rides.

Experience a slice of the indigenous Aynu culture by interacting with local cultural ambassadors in workshops and activities.
